Anderson, Laurie Halse. 2005. PROM. New York: Viking. ISBN 0670059749
Ashley Hannigan does not care about the prom at all. Although she has a boyfriend, she has no need to go through all the chaos
that is prom. Yet when the teacher in charge of prom steals all the money, her best friend begs Ashley to help her make the
prom happen. The prom planning committee has only weeks to get prom under control. They must find a place to have prom, food
to serve, ways to decorate, etc. They even have to charge people again to buy tickets. Ashley still doesn’t intend to
go to prom. But when Ashley’s mother finds out that Ashley has been helping out…she becomes determined that her
daughter will not only go to prom…but that she’ll be dressed in something frilly. With limited financial resources,
she ends up with a prom dress…but fate intervenes…or so she thinks…and the dress is ruined before prom night.
Ashley has no interest in the prom….until she’s banned from attending prom by the principal. With the help of
her best friend’s eccentric grandma who has sewn her a prom dress…Ashley heads off to the prom for an unforgettable
night.
